The Oak Lawn Library Friends website has a lot more on it than people may realize. It is not just a basic library support site. It has become a strong resource for readers, researchers, neighbors, and anyone interested in books, authors, art, and Dallas LGBTQ history.
One of the biggest resources on the site is the author section. The website now has 5,595 author pages, and they are updated regularly. Each page gives a basic biography of the author, a list of their books in publication order, and sometimes a YouTube interview or video feature. For anyone trying to learn more about an author, find the next book in a series, or discover someone new, this is a useful tool.
The site also includes pages from previous art shows and exhibits connected to the Oak Lawn Library. These pages help preserve pieces of local culture and history that should not disappear after an exhibit comes down.
One of our favorite exhibits was Pride in Dallas: A Brief Look at Dallas LGBTQ History, presented by the University of North Texas Special Collections. The exhibit features materials that help tell part of the story of Dallas LGBTQ history and the people, places, and movements that shaped our community.
There is also another exhibit worth spending time with: Women in the Dallas LGBTQ Community. This page highlights women who have helped shape Dallas LGBTQ life, culture, leadership, and visibility.
