The Oak Lawn Library is at risk as the City evaluates major changes to the system, including potential branch closures. Take two minutes to read on and see how you can help save the Oak Lawn library.
Library Giving Week (April 6 to April 13) is a national effort to support local libraries, with the giving portal open March 29 through April 14 at 11:59 p.m. Donations in North Texas are facilitated through the Communities Foundation of Texas and support systems like the Dallas Public Library and Oak Lawn.
These funds go directly toward services people use every day such as computers, scanners, job search support, and early literacy programs. These are the kinds of services that often fall outside core city funding but make a real impact on access and opportunity.

At the same time, the City of Dallas is evaluating changes to the library system. The current proposal includes a shift to a regional model and potential branch closures, including Oak Lawn.
The broader context matters. Library funding has remained relatively flat for decades, purchasing power has declined, and Dallas spends less per resident than many peer cities.
For Oak Lawn, this is immediate and local. The library is a walkable, accessible resource in the heart of the Gayborhood. It supports learning, job access, community programming, and serves as a safe public space.
