Opinion Piece by Mixed Majesty
House music has always felt like home to me. I was always drawn to spaces where people could move freely, connect, and show up as their fullest selves. Even before I was old enough to attend raves or music festivals, I knew there was something special about the culture long before I fully understood its history.
After nearly a decade of shuffling, years of curating playlists, and growing as a DJ and producer. Mixed Majesty has become an extension of that journey. It represents the freedom, confidence. A sense of belonging that I have found through house music. Its a feeling I hope to create for others through every set.
That is why I am honored to be part of the launch of the Floor Freedom Foundation at Alexandre’s. Oak Lawn already has a rich history of queer community and self-expression. I believe house music can help us build on that legacy by creating more opportunities for people to connect across generations and identities.
House music grew from Chicago’s Black, Latino, and LGBTQ+ communities. People created their own spaces for joy, music, and expression. As we bring this night to life, I want to honor those roots while cultivating something that feels authentic to Oak Lawn and the people who call it home.
I am deeply grateful to Alexandre’s for opening its doors and giving us the opportunity to bring this vision to life. Thank you also to The Market on the Strip and Royal Liquor Beer & Wine for supporting the launch. Shout out to the Floor Freedom Foundation, DJ D3I JUAN3, LEI D. KLLR, and REYDEX for believing in what we are building together.
I cannot wait to share what Mixed Majesty has in store and experience this night with our community.
