The Monroe

The Monroe Apartments Oak Lawn Gayborhood Living

The Monroe offers Oak Lawn living with a little more breathing room. Set among mature trees and landscaped courtyards on Lahoma Street, the community provides a quieter residential home base while keeping the nightlife, restaurants, businesses, and LGBTQ+ community spaces along Cedar Springs Road within walking distance.

Rather than another large contemporary apartment block, The Monroe offers one-bedroom flats and two-bedroom townhomes in a low-rise setting. Floor plans range from compact one-bedroom homes to two-bedroom layouts exceeding 1,200 square feet, giving residents options for living alone, sharing space, working from home, or simply having more room.

The townhomes are the real differentiator. Select homes include private backyards and separate front and rear entrances, creating a more house-like experience than residents typically find this close to central Dallas. Other available features include built-in bookshelves, spacious bedrooms, hardwood or hardwood-style flooring, full-size washer and dryer connections, and renovated kitchens with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. Features vary by home.

The community’s amenities are straightforward and useful: a swimming pool, landscaped courtyards, gas grills and a gathering gazebo, gated access, covered parking options, a laundry facility, a spacious dog run, and a dog-washing station. The setting is designed less around spectacle and more around having comfortable outdoor space close to home.

The Monroe works well for residents who want to live in Oak Lawn and remain connected to the Gayborhood without placing themselves directly in the middle of the Cedar Springs entertainment district. You can walk toward the nightlife when you want it, then return to a tree-lined residential pocket with private yards, courtyards, and a slower pace.
